Barco to Deliver 24in Rugged Displays for Royal Navy's Merlin MK 1 Helicopters

19 July 2006 16:51

Visualization specialist Barco has been selected by Lockheed Martin UK, Ltd., London, to deliver over 80 units of its TL-361 rugged display to be used inside the Royal Navy's Merlin MK 1 helicopter.

The 24in TL-361, the new member of Barco's family of thin and lightweight rugged displays, is especially suitable for airborne platforms and will be used as the mission display inside the Merlin helicopter. The delivery fits into the Royal Navy's Merlin Capability Sustainment Program (MCSP) and holds the possibility for customer support for the next 30 years.

Barco was selected competitively by Lockheed Martin UK Ltd. because of the TL-361's exceptionally low weight and compact footprint, which make the display an ideal solution for airborne platforms.

The TL-361 is the latest addition to Barco's family of thin and lightweight displays. Barco's innovative TL series features first-class Active Matrix LCD technology, providing excellent performance in terms of brightness, crispness, contrast and viewing angle. What's more, the TL displays excel in versatility and price/performance ratio, thereby offering integrators a new degree of freedom to optimize their designs and reduce costs.

Barco has enjoyed a successful history of providing the Lockheed Martin Corporation with rugged display solutions for many naval and airborne programs.

The first TL-361 units for the MCSP are expected to be delivered in May 2007.
