Allied Data Systems - Naval Computers, Software and Interfaces

Allied Data Systems develops and supplies embedded computing platforms, software and military interfaces for use in rugged environments. Our product range includes rugged notebook computers through to custom embedded computing solutions that include MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, NTDS, MIL-STD-1397, rugged Ethernet and Fibre Channel Data Buses, remote and solid state power controllers and synchro/resolver motion control products.

Embedded and rugged computing platforms

Embedded computing is not just about the embedded computer hardware. Each system also requires embedded software and application specific hardware interfaces. Here at Allied we do as much or as little as you want. We can supply you the embedded hardware to meet your requirements. If it doesn't exist we can design it for you. But we also can write the software and embed it into a system that interfaces and controls or completes your application.

Our embedded hardware includes PC/104, PC104plus, PCI104, VME, cPCI and computer on a module. Apart from our own products we also supply embedded computers from RTD embedded computers, Compulab and EVOC. A few of our supplied systems include MIL-STD-1553 bus controllers, data distribution units, guided missile launch system simulators that replicate the missiles and launcher, engine management and maintenance logging systems and energy control systems.

Naval and industrial embedded interfaces

Embedded computing systems usually require application specific interfaces. We manufacture and/or supply interfaces for the MIL-STD-1553 Data Bus, NTDS or MIL-STD-1397 buses, ARINC 429 bus, synchronous serial interfaces including MIL-STD-188, synchronous serial interfaces and synchro and resolver interfaces. We also supply rugged Ethernet and fibre channel interfaces. Our suppliers include Data Device corporation, Sealevel, RTD Embedded Technologies, L3 Communications APD.

Synchro / resolver motion control

Synchros and resolvers are rugged transducers that are used to measure rotational position on ships and aircraft. We have an extensive range of synchro and resolver converters including cards and components to convert from synchro and resolver to digital and back again. Our cards are available as very rugged or commercial grade and we also have available high powered reference oscillators. We are able to supply complete systems including software and hardware to measure and control or just the cards and components. Typical systems we have developed using our synchro boards are ships data distribution units with multiple interfaces including synchro, Ethernet and RS 485.

FFG upgrade systems

We have provided a number of items in use with the Royal Australian Navy including a permission to train system; a triple redundant safety system that works with on the on board training system and prevents the training system from operating if any of the effectors (weapons systems) are on, the simulator for the guided missile launcher and SM1, SM2 and harpoon missiles, and the console intercommunication system that provides communications to the sound power channels on board the ship and to the radio systems. Along with the ships data distribution system we have designed a large amount of systems that work with existing equipment on board the ship. A number of these systems are form, fit and functional replacements to existing or obsolete equipment.

Naval hardware and software R&D an testing services

Our development capabilities include both hardware and software design. We routinely develop printed circuit boards (PCB's) that include specialised interfaces and embedded computers. We develop embedded software and firmware to perform application specific functions for our clients.

We use embedded Windows, Linux and real time operating systems in our software development. We have in house testing capability for shock, vibration, temperature and humidity, and have designed hardware to meet MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-810 and other military and NATO environmental testing standards.
